"...I credit the decodables and their associated activities..."
Â
One of my students went from not reading to reading and I credit the decodables and their associated activities with helping this progression. She has gone from being behind her peers to now in front of a majority of her classmates.Â

- LOUISE SHEDDEN, 1ST GRADE TEACHER
My students love the decodable books. They practice reading them with a partner everyday.Â
The lesson plans have helped me organize my instruction and activities for each lesson. The games are fun and I send them home to play with their families. - Kelly
Â
I am a special educator teaching children with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia). These materials are thorough, expansive and extremely engaging. I love the pictures, fonts, consistency, and quality.Â
The kids I teach span across grade levels and have huge deficits in learning. These materials have helped them so much! I can see tremendous progress both in their reading and spelling performance. - Nandini
My students LOVE going to stations and small group using these materials.Â
I have seen growth in their decoding, blending and ultimately reading. My stress level is down too and I don't waste endless hours browsing through resources. - SoniaÂ

Each reader follows a carefully planned scope and sequence, ensuring a systematic approach to literacy development. The text is highly controlled, featuring mostly decodable words and common high-frequency words, helping kids build confidence and fluency.
Available in both color and black-and-white, these readers offer motivating, interesting stories with beautiful illustrations that celebrate diverse characters, making reading an engaging and accessible experience for all students.
Phonics Small Group & Center Activities
Our Science of Reading-aligned activities are designed to engage early readers with fun, multi-sensory experiences that follow the same sequence as our decodable readers and lesson plans. These activities reinforce and extend the practice of learned phonics skills, promoting independence and building confidence in young learners.
Complementing these activities, our posters and visual aids correlate with all phonics focus skills, serving as valuable reference tools or classroom displays to guide and enhance your phonics instruction.
    User-Friendly, Explicit Lesson Plans
Our user-friendly, explicit lesson plans are designed to align seamlessly with each decodable reader, offering a flexible format that adapts to your teaching style. Whether you prefer a step-by-step approach or using them as a loose guide, these plans provide easy-to-implement strategies and teaching tips, making it simple to support your students' literacy development.
Each lesson plan includes: step-by step-instructions, a list of high frequency words found in the decodable reader, recommended follow-up activities, and student assessment sheets.
"My students are able to read texts at their level while working on decoding skills that help them move up and continue to grow. Seeing their smiles when they are able to decode unknown words is truly special."

Hi, I’m Lyndsey Kuster, the creator of Road to Decode®.
My path to curriculum development didn’t start with a publishing company or a polished program. It started in a first-grade classroom, sitting across from students who were expected to read books they simply weren’t equipped to read yet.
Again and again, I was given leveled readers that didn’t match the phonics skills my students had actually been taught. My students weren’t decoding. They were guessing, memorizing, and relying on pictures to get through text. And no amount of enthusiasm or effort could make those materials work the way they were supposed to.
That disconnect sent me searching for better answers. I spent years studying structured literacy and paying close attention to what actually helped students read with confidence. What I found was clear: students need text that aligns precisely with instruction, not materials that ask them to compensate for gaps.
Built on years of research and shaped by ongoing feedback from teachers, Road to Decode® provides decodable texts designed with intention, clarity, and classroom reality in mind.Â
As a former classroom teacher turned curriculum developer, my work is grounded in one goal: making literacy instruction clearer, more effective, and more sustainable for teachers — and more successful for students.
